A hossu is a hand held staff of wood with bundled hair (real horsetail) wielded by a Zen Buddhist priest.

Length: about 42 inches(handle 15"  + horsetail 25")

The stick is believed to protect the wielder from desire and also works as a way of ridding areas of flies without killing them.
